Gone Fishin'

This rod was built for the 2023 International Rod Building Challenge - named "Gone Fishin", rod harkens back to our simpler days of youth - leaving to fish at dawn and not returning till the sun sets. The colors of sunrise/set carry throughout the rod - from the grips using a technique variation that was inspired by the EVA inlay technique made popular by Billy Vivona to the decorative wrap to the guide wraps all the way up the rod. We are reminded that "We do not stop fishing when we get old, but we get old when we stop fishing" - again tying in the sunrise/set of life.

Built on the two-piece "Mystery Blank" for the challenge, the rod's hardware features a Batson Enterprises Alps RapidTouch seat with custom painted insert, a customize EVA hood, custom red powder coated Alps MXN and Low Rider fly guides, and a customized Alps butt-cap.
